Money, money, money . . . Everyone could always use some more. Unfortunately though, some people find that they NEED it a lot more than others.
The National Institute of Mental Health had conducted a study and came to the conclusion that 4.2 million Americans are addicted to gambling. 60 percent of which make a yearly income under 25,000 dollars. There are roughly 300 million people in the United States. That means about 1 out of every 71 people are stuck on gambling. This may not seem like much, but add them together and that makes way too many.
You don't necessarily have to be addicted to gambling to want to have more money. Many people want to become rich, but only a select few actually do. They believe this way they won't have to worry about all the problems of not being able to buy something. They could buy whatever they wanted. This is pretty unrealistic of course. Money can always run out. Even if you're rich, it is still possible to merely buy more expensive things and run into the same problems. What do we do for more money? We work overtime, get a second or third job, or play the lottery.
In today's world, money means power. Maybe not always, but in most cases it does. And with too much power, it becomes much easier to be able to try and misuse that power for our own benefit. Many people need to realize that money can corrupt the mind. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "He who loses money, loses much; He who loses a friend, loses much more; He who loses faith, loses all."
