Stories have been told with pictures since man started drawing on cave walls, now the comic book is a nature progression of this. Now, with the bastardization of great comics books into craptacular films, staying true to classic comic format has been
more important than ever. Instead of putting 10 reasons of why comics are better, here's 2:
2. The Art. Unaltered ink strokes and depth that could never been captured in real
life. It's standalone, it can tell a story with out explaining itself. It's there
panel by panel. An artist has an amazing gift to give you detail and story without
the need to explain itself with noise or words. That is truly gratifying to see in
you hands.
1. The Writing. As I mentioned with the art, it can never be captured. There's always
time constraints and 'artistic liberties' taken with great stories. For example: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It is nothing like the graphic novels. Nothing.
The only thing that it had in common was the characters. It took a great story by
Alan Moore and turned it into a shoddy explosion packed 'thrill ride'. Most people
that went to see that movie probably didn't even know who the characters were because
that would actually require some reading knowledge. Although my parents knew who Alan
Quartermain was because they saw the movie of King Solomon's Mines.
This also brings me to another point. It's not just comic books Hollywood wrecks,
it's literature. Everyone knows that.
So why does Hollywood have this fascination with making comic book movies that never
stay true to the plot of the comic book itself. (Unless the writer is directly involved like Frank Miller) Because it's classic, it's creative and they aren't making more remakes that just flat out suck.
It seems that I bitch about the same thing when it comes to this stuff. Hollywood needs to get CREATIVE! They need to stop remaking and ripping off perfectly good things. I don't even want to get into the outrage I was in after seeing X-Men 3. Let's just say I want Stan Lee eaten by rapid weasels for even making a cameo in that film, if you can call it film when it's just rubbish.
Comic books and literature will always be better if they're just left alone. Don't mess with something that is already great without CG and live action crap. I assure you that the fans don't want to see it. Actually they do. That's the sad part. Comic book fans love to sit on the forum and talk about what was wrong with the movies and still pay to own them on deluxe dvds. I admit to loving Sin City, except for some of the casting wasn't to my liking. Nerds should unite against movies that tell a tale that is already set into the DC or Marvel universe. Don't f*ck with it! That is all.
Also, this is just for the sake of saying: The number one thing that wrecks comic book movies though is Jessica Alba. Stop casting her in these things, she's not talented. It wrecks everything when she opens
her collagen filled lips. If you're going to put her into something that is comic book based make it a non-speaking role please.
