I love Los Angeles. There really is no place like it in the world. There are more things about LA that I adore than I could possibly put into one readable article, so I will limit myself to a the things that keep me coming back. The three things LA just blows every other city in the USA out of the water with are convenience, culture, and beauty.
The level of convenience of this city is like nowhere else. Where else in the country can you drive for 2 hours to meet friends for brunch on a Sunday afternoon, and then wait outside one of the hottest new eateries for another 45 minutes? All that time you spend driving and waiting is time you spend not eating. I mean, how convenient is that? The less I eat in LA the m ore I feel like I fit in with the "glitterati." The amount of time it takes to get anywhere provides hands-down the most ironclad excuse for being late ever, "I'm so sorry, there was an accident/construction on the freeway, there was nothing I could do!" Now that I what I call convenience.
The culture in Los Angeles is something else as well. If you can manage not to get shot, you can go down to some impoverished neighborhoods on the East side and see the crazy kids "krumping." It's amazing. My tip is just to wear basic black, that way you avoid all that messy "gangbanging" stuff. There are Latinos, blacks, Koreans, even Samoans, and they are all pretty much split up into separate neighborhoods so you can plan what kind of cultural experience you want to have. All this means is that if you ever decide you actually want to eat something, you have a lot of multicultural options.
Besides ethnic diversity, the actual Hollywood culture is what I get the most out of. Where else can you meet 5 different people at a party who all "can't wait to read your screenplay," take your card, and never call you? It is amazing, those people are just so busy! If you are really lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of your favorite nubile starlet's crotch as she sloppily exits her sports car. I mean, where else can you rub elbows in a club bathroom with the beautiful people as you powder your noses?
All this talk of Hollywood brings me to the final reason for why I love Los Angeles: the beauty. Rodeo Drive alone is so jam-packed with loveliness it's hard to know where to start. Beverly Hills is always a drool-worthy cruise if you're up for the trolley ride. Incidentally, it will take you straight to Rodeo Drive, where you can hop off and do a little more sightseeing. Tiffany's, Cartier, Chanel, and Gucci are a few of the more noteworthy things on my list of places that are easy on the eyes. The level of gorgeousness in this city is simply unprecedented. Venice Beach is nice, too, if you're into that sort of thing. Just watch for hypodermic needles!
There are more things to list about Los Angeles, but I fear I may have already bored you to death, gentle reader, with my gushing about this little gem by the sea. Yes, what began as a Mexican settlement is now the second most populous city in the United States. Ironically, Los Angeles steals most of its potable water from Mexico these days. Now, I call that planning ahead! So really, explore the wonders of LA, a place with little not to love.
