Accidents happen. When an accident happens it is remarkably important to be prepared. Being prepared can save a life. First aid kits can be created before an accident strikes. That way when it does you are ready.
Many people say it is important to have a first aid kit. I say it is important to have at least two first aid kits. I firmly believe there should be both one for home and one for travel. Keep both covered to keep your family covered with the supplies they need in case of accident or emergency.
What are the supplies that are needed in a first aid kit anyway? Well, each kit should contain several supplies. All of the supplies should be in a small bag or container of some sort. Something closeable and easily stored. A box, a bag, anything will work. It's not the container that's important but rather what's inside.
The actual supplies are varied. Kits contain a variety of things for a variety of problems. Think of problems that require a first aid kit when creating yours. Here's what I have come up with and included in my own first aid kits for my family of FIVE children...
First there are the supplies to care for common cuts and scrapes. I include antibiotic ointment to keep those germs at bay. I have band-aids of various shapes and sizes. There's one for every small cut not matter how long or wide. For the bigger cuts I recommend gauze packets, a small roll of gauze, and a roll of medical tape. In the case of an emergency cut these supplies could stop or slow down bleeding well enough until help arrived to save your child or elderly loved ones life. A 911 operator can walk you through the steps.
Next there are the burns. Minor burns can be home treated from the first aid kit with burn ointment which is available at most drug stores. Burns do happen and it's best to be prepared.
Then there are the sick all of a sudden emergencies. For the severe vomiting I keep suppositories that reduce vomiting. For the high fevers there's a small bottle of Fever reducer. It really sounds like a medicine cabinet doesn't it? Well, in a way it is. A little one.
Those are the supplies for the most common things. There are some other not as common situations that can arise as well though. Motion sickness being one of them. Keep a couple of plastic bags in the first aid kit that stays in the car. Motion sickness isn't planned and can strike anyone at any time given the right conditions. You may end up thankful you put it there! Actually, plastic bags
