How can one fathom that intimidation teaches? Intimidation is a form of bullying used my children and adults. It teaches children to fear others and obey when threatened, I think that is about all it actually teaches.
A parent can threaten and intimidate their children, but it does not teach them anything. It makes them obey, not learn. Children often learn from what they see and hear. If they are continuously hearing threats and demands, will they grow up threatening their peers? More than likely yes.
Intimidation is used by bully's in the school grounds, stealing lunch money and beating up little kids and those less fortunate than themselves. Is this how you expected your child to grow up? Or would you rather have a kind hearted child whom helps those less fortunate? I'm sure many parents would choose the latter.
If your child was being bullied by an older person (an adult) would you want them to obey because they are scared? By intimidating your child into obeying, wouldn't they follow what they know and do as the intimidate (adult) tells them (eg. "get in the car")? Wouldn't you rather have them turn and go the opposite direction and find you or another adult that could help them?
Children need to be taught the difference between appropriate behavior and inappropriate behavior. Not through intimidation. Children learn best by watching, so set a good example. Instead of scaring yoru children into doing something for you, speak to them politely and be consistent in your teachings!
