Finding your leadership style: How to manage people and meet goals

When considering which way you need to lead a group of people and get the best possible results you need to assess your own personality and which part of it can draw people to you and make them not mind doing things for you. The bottom line is if people do not like your persona or attitude they probably wont want to do anything for you and definitely wouldn't give it their all. However, if the people you are leading like you they would have no problem with and would even enjoy helping you.

Think back to times in your life where you needed to step up and take control of a stressful situation without imploding or exploding emotionally. We all have the ability to lead and be leaders and have all been in some sort of leadership role in the entirety of our lives. A part of leadership is about trust, meaning the trust between he/she who is leading towards those being lead and vi-ca versa. This is a different kind of trust then hoping one will not steal something from you this is a trust where you respect each-others emotions and boundaries.

The next part of leadership that is also a give and take situation is appreciation, show the ones you are leading appreciation with uplifting words. If they make a mistake tell them that it is no big deal and laugh it off. This is the kind of person that people want to do things for to the best of their ability. The goal as a leader is to get a situation from point A to point B and do it to the best of your ability. If this is a job situation and you are the one leading try offering up a cash bonus for the best task helper helper of the week, people like doing things if there is a chance of reward.

Pertaining to your personality take a deep breathe and take a moment to look inward and consider your strong points and then write them down. These are and will be your tools that will help you get what you want and have the mission achieved with maximum effectiveness. Consider the tone of voice you will be using when addressing the people you will be wanting to help you. Exercise patience when dealing with small setbacks as reacting adversely to them can totally disconnect a team from you.

If this is not a job situation and it is a coach/player relationship all of the same things apply. If you are dealing with children make sure that you realize that you are dealing with sensitive individuals and that you must always offer positive enforcement with them unless punishment is necessary for derelict behaviors within the team. The best way to get results as a coach with players of any age is to always try and keep the environment an upbeat one. It may take work but you will get it by practicing this technique and this will help you get the best possible results in the long run.

If you are having a bad day do your best to disguise it and deal with it when you get home. As I have said you have to practice these ways of behaving because they can be incredibly beneficial traits for your own health and for the happiness of others. One person in the public who wins people over with just his overall aura and persona is ex-president Bill Clinton, he can talk and listen his way into our good-books with ease and always looks like he wants to be there. Therefor we just need to replicate behaviors from people such as these. Finally, it all comes down to the rule, treat others how you would like to be treated. Its not that hard!
