A Mormon, an African-American, a woman: Is America ready for change in 2008?

Is America ready for change in 2008? The answer to that question is yes. The number of people who have been coming out to vote in these primaries so far indicate America is ready for change. The candidates running for the office of Presidency from both parties know that they must convince the American people they can be the new world's leader. We need someone who can regain respect for America in the world. We need someone who will serve this country with the same convictions of the founding fathers. We need someone who is committed to the high ideals of God first and the country follows. We need someone who will restore integrity and still respect people of other cultures "without" selling out the American people. Our sons and daughters are expected to back our Commander and Chief in whatever arena he says he needs them. This is what we are looking for in the individual who will lead our country. Does it make a difference what container he or she comes in if they can achieve and fulfill the needs we have in a leader?

The Democrats have some very competent candidates running for the presidency. Listening to the debates carefully to see where the candidates stand is important because with this elections comes some serious problems that need to be addressed. Problems like jobs disappearing, global warming, health care, Medicare and The War. We can't afford to be turned off by a woman running for president, an Afro-American or a Hispanic- we need the person who can "do the job" and someone who can be diplomatic. At this point whether that person is Democratic or Republican, we have reached a point where we need an individual we have the confidence is able to "do the job" regardless of political party.

The American middle class does not seem to be represented accept to supply men and women to fight a war that seems impossible to win. Watching the debates of both parties has been insightful because clearly we need to think about the individual who can best do this job in such a critical period in our history. Gov. Huckabee impresses me on the Republican side but I know that we are so accustomed to being polarized to a particular party. Hopefully we will use some discernment in picking this leader since we have so much at stake. Try to look at the qualifications of the candidates and what they bring to the table instead of what party they belong to.

We want to look carefully at the candidates, whether Mormon, African-American, or female and in 2008- choose the candidate that we feel will best carry out our convictions. We have learned the price of making a decision we no longer agree with. We may be on the brink of WW111. Our children are in "harms way" and no one has the answer as to how we might remove them from "harms way" and save face at the same time. Chose is a privilege and chose is a great responsibility. Since chose affects more than each of us individually but all of us collectively- I think we need to carefully figure out who, the best person for the job might be. There is a great deal of future hanging in the balance. We perhaps, have lived so well, we take for granted how important the opportunity to choose is to our country. This should be a great time to refresh ourselves and rethink just how blessed we are in this country. We will then understand why people risk their lives to cross the border and live here.
