I taugh Suzuki and traditional piano lessons for 20 years and I consistantly followed Suzuki tradition by having a group lesson once a month. The students loved them because we played games to learn music theory. It also freed up time for me to make up lessons or just to have a short break from nightly lessons. The games were nothing elaborate, the simplest things were the most fun for the kids and all ages enjoyed them. We would do relays where they would pick a letter card and then have to run to a table and find the note flash card that matched and run back to the piano and play it to move on to the next person. They would bounce a ball to a song for rhythmn or click sticks together. It was loud and wild some days but the kids always looked forward to it and learned more that way then by Theory books which can be really boring. The winners always won a prize and most of the time that would be an M&M for everyone they got right but everyone would get atleast 2 so no one went home without a treat. Plus they got to work off some steam after school. The games always pertained to music except special Holiday parties then we played regular games. It was fun for me and them.
