Colon cancer is truly a pain. When I was diagnosed two years ago at age 36 I was told " Wow 36 year old women are not supposed to get colon cancer." Well guess what? I did. Colon cancer has taken the lives of too many people that would not have had a clue they had it if they were not insured and had good sense about the medical dilemma our country is in today. The cancer victims are getting younger everyday and it is ridiculous. This does not need to happen. If our insurance providers would understand that age 50, in some cases, is not early enough for some patients who are likely to have colon cancer. We need to let them know how important genetic testing is for family members of cancer patients. I went through 3 insurance companies before I found one that would pay 100% of the testing so that I could find out if my children carried the gene that would cause colon cancer in their bodies. Wow, can you believe that the other insurance providers did not think that my children's lives were very important. That has to stop. I also have a friend whose father needed immediate treatment at a highly prestigious hospital, but they would not touch him until he provided them with $15,000. WHAT! So now there is a price tag on life. Amazing. We as a society must pull together to help all of these people who don't have a chance for treatment.
