If you're looking to add something extra to your baby shower besides the typical diaper tower and pin-the-binky-on-the-baby game, why not try a themed party for the mom-to-be? Here are some ideas to get you started.
Before the shower, collaborate with the mom-to-be on who should be invited. It's her party and she should get a say on who is there. As the hostess whether you're the mother-in-law, the mother or just a close friend of the mom-to-be etiquette rules by PreggiePeggy.com state that you're willing to throw open your doors to pretty much whoever the guest of honor wants, so consider that beforehand.
Now, with the guest list ready, it's time for the party.
We all know the first year of a baby's life is full of growth spurts. To prevent a mom from getting way too many 3-6 months outfits, why not have a "first 12 months" baby shower? Depict a growing baby on the invitations and assign each person coming a month in the baby's first year. Someone assigned "six months" could get the baby an outfit for that time remember to think about what the weather will be like six months from now or a Baby Einstein video for that age group. As an activity, pass out diapers and sharpies to all of the guests. Have them write advice on the diaper. Put the diapers in a fun basket and give it as a gift to the guest of honor. When she's having her first bonding moments with her newborn, she'll be able to remember the fun moments with her friends and it will be advice that actually gets used! As a favor, send guests out the door with disposable cameras to continue capturing memories of their own lives. If you buy them from a wedding Web site, such as weddingcameras.com, you can purchase plain white cameras to decorate with ribbons.
Since the end of the nine months will be marked with a trip to the hospital, have the guests help the mom-to-be get ready for the trip by packing a survival kit for her. In this "plan for the party" shower, from BabyShower101.com, guests can bring slippers, a headband, back massager, body lotion, lip balm, lollipops, breath mints, a disposable camera and the list goes on and on. To make the kit personal for the guests, suggest on the invitation that the guest bring an item that they "really wanted or couldn't live without in the hospital" when having their baby. If the invitation is going to women without children, focus on the guest of honor and word the invitation to say "we're making a Survival Kit for (name of shower honoree) for
