Mental coping mechanisms for obsessive thoughts

Obsessive Thoughts.........

The best way to deal with obsessive thoughts, is to start with where they come from, which is our old friend, Stress.

All animals are born with the primitive Fight or Flight response, also known as "the acute stress response". It is a primitive, natural instinctive response that tells every animal to fight or flee in the face of danger. In other words, there is a 100% scientific reason we stress the hell out, and believe it or not, it's basically to run from a saber tooth tiger.

When we stress, or obsess, we cause our adrenal glands to produce the hormone Norepeinephrine, or "adrenaline". The effects on the human body are horrible, and sometimes irreparable. Stress causes disruption of the sexual responses, digestive response, diarrhea, constipation, dehydration, anxiety, headaches, tremors, palpitations, hypertension (high blood pressure), and eventually lead to acute pulmonary edema; sadly, thats just some of the effects of stress.

Get this crap out of me!
Obsessive thoughts definitely come from stress, and there is truly only one way to get it out: exercise it out of your body. Run, jump, swim, surf, skate, walk, jog, hike, ride a bike, go to the gym, climb... Stay physical! Remember, you feel this way because a saber tooth tiger is about to tear your butt apart!

Watch your diet like a hawk!
Stay away from beverages that contain caffeine when your stressed out: Coffee, Teas (some teas can help, decaf peppermint, chamomile), soda pop.
Alcohol will get rid of that stress, and when you wake up the next day, your obsessive thoughts are now Obsessive thoughts x100. A beer, or a glass of wine maybe, getting trashed probably isn't the best idea (plus, you probably don't want to break down that wall thats been keeping you from acting completely irrational and doing something you may seriously regret).
Don't eat foods your body has to work hard to digest.
Remember, if it can cause a rush (candy, caffeine, junk), it will intensify the obsessive thoughts.

Exercise your mental!
Balance your check book, fill out all the product registration cards from last Christmas, watch a comedy, clean out your dresser, clean your closet.... even the smallest accomplishments can help get him/her out of your mind for a while.

Friends?
Sorry to say, but a friend that is going to give in and agree with your angry obsession, probably isn't the person you should be talking/listening too. A lot of us are blessed with people in our life that will
A. Just listen
B. Help push
