Born and raised in a land with trees, hills, and lakes, I know why I love the Midwest. The land where the summers are warm, but not hot. Where winters are full of fresh white snow and good times. Where one understands why hot cocoa is a wonderful warm treat, and where scarves are for more then just assesserizing your coat.
I spent the first twenty three years of my life in Michigan, primarily northern lower peninsula. I lived in the woods and wandered about the beautiful landscapes. Our town had not one beautiful lake, but two and wasn't far from the Lake Michigan. Then we moved to Wisconsin, which was also a beautiful land. There we were on the "wrong" side of the Lake, but still not far.
Having now moved to the desert land of the Permian Basin in West Texas, I can honestly say, "Trees are beautiful!" Dirt is best in rich dark colors that smell earthy and wonderful after a nice spring or summer rain. The cool fresh water of a nearby lake far surpasses that of the chlorine filled pool. And fresh air makes a woman's lungs feel good!
Seasons can change the way we think. Watching them open the doors to new life in spring, watching the blooming of the flowers as they force their way through the snow, can make one feel alive like never before. Summer brings green anew and fresh. Fall leads us into all the wonderful colors, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and browns. Then the snow washes the world, pristine, and clean.
Then there are the activities. Hiking all year round. Swimming in late spring and summer, early fall. Raking the leaves and jumping in each fall! Skiing, snowmobiling. Fishing. The outdoors offers all of these things, with great weather to enjoy them most of the time.
Why I love the Midwest.
