As I write this article, I am watching television. No surprise, but the scene being displayed is that of a couple having sex. It seems like every show these days is loaded with sex scenes or innuendo. Television is definitely not like the days of T.V. couple, Ward and June Cleaver, who slept in separate beds on television! Who can forget the debate that Elvis caused by merely shaking his hips?
Today, Elvis's signature hip shake is passe. People are used to seeing half clothed women and sexy men on television. Sex sells and the networks know it. To pick up higher ratings, networks pack as much sex into a show as possible. Unfortunately, this jeopardizes the quality of shows that we see on T.V. Instead of focusing on the storyline of a show, we as viewers tend to get caught up in the sexual content.

For example, shows like CSI, are clothing their female stars in low cut tops, and other sexy attire. How many women that work in this field in real life wear this kind of clothing? none. Female viewers see these attractive, thin women, and then look at their own bodies. Just like the women, males also compare themselves to what they see on television. This effect can also be seen in the rise of eating disorders. It is not healthy, physically or emotionally to think that as a woman, you need perfect size D breasts or as a man, feel like you need that full 6 pack.
The second affect of sex on TV is on relationships. Men and women see these women and wish they had a partner like the one he sees on television. Instead of spending time with family, and fantasizing about their partners, they are fantasizing about a sexy woman or man on TV. Oh, fantasies are healthy, but when you are continually bombarded by sex, and the woman or man you have in reality does not match the fantasy you see on TV, it can
