We live in an ever changing world that is becoming more diverse by the minute. Diversity can be a positive aspect to life, or it can signal the end of traditions and certain values. Whether it is seen as good or bad tends to coincide with whether it has been accompanied by choice.

Where a society has a system, or way of life, that works for them they are going to be upset and disgruntled if diversity which changes the working system is forced upon them. On the other hand, if a society recognizes the need for expansion of ideas and welcomes changes which may help, diversity can work for the good of the people.

Looking on a smaller scale at the idea of diversity and how it can affect us as individuals, it may also be met with either open arms or tightly folded ones. This is because the onset of diversity brings change and many people prefer their usual routines and to know what is happening in their lives. Diversity can be a step into the unknown where unfamiliarity, indeed, breeds contempt through fear.

It is always easiest to take the path that you already know. If you do this you are more aware of what you may come across around the corner and you can, to a certain extent, prepare for it in advance. Knowing where you are headed, with whom and the landscape can give you more control along your journey.

However diversity requires you to think with an open mind and to allow new and possibly formerly unknown aspects into your life.

The strange thing is that even when diversity is forced upon an individual or society, signaling a lack of choice, it cant help but bring with it more choices, more roads to choose from on which to travel.
