One of the most obvious ways a person can sabotage their career is by dishonesty. Pretending to be someone you're not MAY get you the job,but it MAY also invite a prompt termination.
Maybe you really believe you have what it takes,just not the exact credentials? So you think you might be able to 'dress up or embellish' your resume a little? Stretching the truth is lying and sooner or later your employer is bound to find out.
It is so true...'You can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.'Essentially, that is what someone who is dishonest in their career is doing, believing that they can 'fool all of the people all of the time.'
It's bound to catch up to !
Another way is forgetting how important the first few weeks are,there is no room for error,laziness,or gossip.
The last piece of advice I have to offer, I cannot stress enough.Do not and I mean DO NOT EVER enter into a relationship with your boss.That is unless you want your job security constantly hanging in the balance and whether or not you are 'together' being the determining factor.Trust me on this one.You may say "They can't fire you for breaking up with them." It happens all the time and proving it is difficult.Put your career first and search for love elsewhere.
Continuing a strong work ethic is a good insurance policy for your career. The people who start to shirk off responsibilities and take their jobs for granted are the first to be laid or let go.If it's a job you want to keep, you really need to think ahead,long term.
