Poetry: Knowledge

duality

I've played many years with double consciousness
looking at life in two separate and
completely different pair of eyes
eyes of an American
eyes of an African American
this duality has taken its toll
pulling my left arm to the right
and my right to the left
but something happened
my eyes seem to have crossed
and become one lens
with the focus very clear
i now see that the two worlds are one
and i have put duality
away.
