Continuing education through community colleges

An education at a community college is considered to be extremely helpful for many students. A student chooses to attend the college for an ample of reasons. Community colleges are usually affordable, close to home, and allow credits transferring to four-year institutions. For those who want a head start in their career, they have an option of selecting mainly associate degree programs, including those popular nursing and computer programs. Whatever the reason why a student decides to study at a nearby community college, they will receive convenient academic support just as well as other regular colleges.

So what do community colleges and other four-year colleges have in common? They usually have flexible class schedules that usually allow free time for studying and relaxation. A community college has a tutoring service that is generally free of charge just like many other colleges. And community colleges provide class syllabus for a good indication of classes. Libraries are available, as well as computer labs.

Now the differences between a public community college and a public four-year university. That four-year institution usually have food services, residential halls and apartments, and an athletic complex. I don't know a community college that has either one of these. Community colleges often do not provide a food service, with meal plans included, nor they provide on-campus housing. Instead, students will have to make plans on how to travel toward those otherwise commuter campuses. In addition, a typical community college has a more less availability of student organizations and activities than four-year colleges. This includes working for student newspapers, yearbooks, and even campus television stations. Still, this should not stop a student from getting his studies at the community college.

Despite the slim chance of being an on-campus student worker, community colleges do have some positive feedback about them. Having an education in those colleges are very inexpensive comparing to many other colleges, both public and private. In fact, a typical community college can have cheaper tuition rates than a public four-year college. That's something to smile about for community college-bound students. Also, for students who wish to transfer to a different college and continue their studies from there, community colleges will be able to do just that. This is a excellent idea for those who have not met satisfactory criteria in colleges they have first applied to.

If I was to ask about fifty students why they attended a community college, I may expect to receive a response such as "Because it's affordable" or "So I can transfer o a different college." Sure enough, those really are the main reasons why students attend a college that can be right in their hometown or just several miles away. But the most important reason why students attend those type of colleges is their goals. They strive for their future, and that is a priority.
