How job shadowing can help you choose your college major

My grandmother was born in 1913. By the time she was old enough to work, the ideals for that generation were go to work anywhere you can and support your family. Now days, it's not the same thing. We work but with little or no regard to stability within a company. We change jobs when better benefits or higher pay is offered.

I think that is due to several reasons, one of which we never give ourselves the time to find something that not only are we good at but something which we like also. Job shadowing to determine your classes is a wonderful way of figuring out what you like before you trap yourself into a job you hate.

Through out high school many students did just what they had to in order to graduate. Once they were in college they felt over run with questions on what they would major in. I am a Domestic Violence case-worker and now I go to school to enhance the career I want. I only take classes that pertain to my job and nothing more. If I would have done it the other way, by just jumping right in to class I would not have found something that spoke to me like my job now. I would have landed in something just to be done with it.

Money is a great thing, I do not argue with that, but trust me when I say once you have found that thing you love, nothing else is that important. Now when I go into a class room I pay attention and strive to do the best that I can because not only does it improve my brain it helps me to succeed in the work place.

We should give ourselves every opportunity to delve into the things that will make us happy in this life, and being able to test out the things that we like before we are forced into makes it that much better. Once you know what you like or don't like, you can choose a path that you will enjoy and want to excel in rather than feeling that you have no choice but to remain in a field you hate.
