A secluded retreat for the elusive traveler in Isle of Palms, South Carolina

Isle of Palms, South Carolina is a 25,000 year old island with six miles of sandy beaches and beautiful tranquility; growing more graceful and beautiful with age. This island is a relaxing get away for residents and visitors alike. An Atlantic barrier island offering orange pink sunsets spanning over beautiful water inlets, marsh countryside, and sandy beach provides an atmosphere of adventure, and calm serenity within a charming island town.

The seven mile island offers bike routes, wide sandy beaches, roller blading along the strip, tennis courts; both clay and hard court, two world class golf courses, beachcombing, and volley ball on the beach.

The Isle of Palms Marina is a five acre marina offering launch service, dockage and fuel for resident and visiting boaters. It also provides services for those interested in on water activities and fishing services. For those who enjoy on water activities visit the marina for a variety of boating activities which includes: canoes, sailboats, kayaks, fishing boats luxury harbor cruises, Jet Skis can be rented to explore nearby islands.

Fishermen can cast their own poles or nets while standing on the beach. Fishing and crabbing can be done in the local waters. Competitor fishermen can go down to the Isle of Palms Marina and check into one of the fishing tournaments often held at the docks.

The city and its residents are environmentally conscience taking great pride in the natural habitat, and animals that live and grow in the regions waterways. Dunes are off limits in order to protect turtle nesting. The Island Turtle team monitors, checks, and records the activity of turtle nest on a regular basis, and if you're lucky you can spot baby loggerheads making their way to the surf at night. Along with loggerhead turtle; osprey, osprey nest, pelicans, and frolicking dolphins are a few of the islands other natural inhabitants.

There are two shopping centers and a grocery store located on the island. Most of the stores are boutique souvenir shops. For serious shopping visitors may want to visit downtown Charleston located approximately 20 minutes inland, or Mt Pleasant located approximately 10 minutes inland.

The Isle of Palms proudly flies the blue flag bestowed upon the city by the Clean Beach Council in Washington D.C. The Blue Wave award is given to beaches who meet cleanliness, safety and public access criteria. The Isle of Palms is being recognized for the sixth year in a row.

There are five hotels/ inns located on the island; as well as, several cottages and houses for rent. Many of the houses, and cottages for rent are located directly on the ocean front and visitors can find these homes by contacting local realtors in the Isle Palms of area, or by visiting the Isle of Palms website. There is a total of 21 restaurants; a mix of chain establishments and locally owned. The Boathouse Restaurant at Breach Inlet is a local favorite, as is Coconut Joes where live music is on the menu most every night of the week.

With marsh vistas, glistening dunes, and crashing waves visitors can loose themselves in the Isle of Palms.
