I am not a native Midwesterner. And thank God for that! I moved here because I love its four seasons. See in South Texas we don't have seasons we have colors. Brown and brief flashes of green. The heat and humidity kill off weaker critters. Nothing makes me happier than a good Midwestern snow storm. I dream of the day when snow is up to my second floor windows. I think 4 seasons is one of God's better inventions. That and Aggie Football rank very high in my heart. The four seasons seem to be perfect in the Midwest. Back East in North Carolina the summer was too hot and too long for my taste. Out west sorry, forget the weather those people are just weird.
I also love the variety of foods that you can enjoy only in the Midwest. Thai, Mexican, Italian, German, Pakistani, and other ethnic groups seem to live in the Midwest and provide my ample waistline plenty of choice. Portillos is a perfect example. Being a fan of the hot dog since its early days I love one piled high with tomato, onion, cukes, and topped with a pickle. Brown's fried mushrooms another example of Midwestern culinary ecstasy. As a fan of eating regularly I am very happy in the Midwest. Best of all people of Midwest are not frightened off by things like fat, sugar, carbs, or alcohol. Nothing worse than killing yourself with good food and having some health nut ruin it by pointing out the obvious. The only two items I cannot find in the Midwest that are equal to Southern Food is decent sweet tea and real Texas brisket. Thankfully, God being big on eating and family provides me Southwest Airlines to run home and fill up when I really need it.
Midwesterners are the most polite people in all of the United States. I am forever pleased to see Southern Hospitality in the form of a Midwestern accent. It is still okay to open a door for a lady and not catch hell. Yes sir and Yes Ma'am also are okay. People on the streets of the Midwest make an effort to be pleasant. Unfortunately, that is growing rare in other parts of the United States. This is another reason why I love the Midwest. "How in the hell did you people win the Civil War?" Must have been Easterners in charge, no Midwesterner would do something so impolite as shoot a Southerner who richly deserved it.
Real team spirit is also a unique Midwestern characteristic. Cubs fans, God love them are disappointed every year but come Opening Day they will back at Wrigley. Then there are the football teams where win or lose fans complain but keep
