How to choose the right shade for your highlights

So you have decided to put highlights in your hair. You have a lot of options to choose from if you want to do this. I have dyed my hair so many times I am surprised that I still have any. I have had good experiences and bad experiences, so I am qualified to tell you what works and what doesn't work. If you have really pale skin like I do you should never use really dark dyes, black is a no-no definitely! It will make you look like you have bags under your eyes and make you even more pale. Also you will want to avoid going very light blond because it will also look more pale on you than a regular blond color.

If you have dark skin, maybe adding some light highlights will make a nice accent. You will want to make sure that your highlights frame your face in order to make it look the best. if you can afford to visit a hair salon I would definitely reccomend it, because they know what they are doing. You don't have to visit an expensive salon, either. There may be a Fantastic Sam's or a cheaper alternative near your house, which you can visit, which will have trained hair stylists. If you do it yourself, you are at risk of messing it up (and I know from experiences, it happens) and you may get blotchy color. There are many ways to highlight your hair, and you can buy kits at any drug store to help you. They usually have a cap with holes in it that you wear, like a shower cap, and you pull little pieces of hair through them. When the hair is all pulled through, you dye the parts sticking out, which creates highlights. You should definitely do some research on local hair salons to save yourself the trouble and the possible mistakes you will make dyeing it on your own.
