How is college different from high school?

There are many reasons why college is different than high school but the three main ones are freedom, responsibility, and course load. As a senior in high school you still have your parents holding your hand and making sure you don't do anything wrong. For most they even make you check in with them before going out or have a set curfew for coming back in, sometimes both. When you get to college you can do anything you want. Want to take a trip to your local Wal Mart, Denny's or Dunkin Donuts at 3 AM? Go for it, it's your choice. But with this freedom there comes a huge amount of responsibility. You're responsible or all your actions, including, going to class, partying, and staying out at night. You can choose to do these things or not do these things. But if you make the wrong choice it falls on your shoulders. The thing that most students worry about is the course load. It is said that you should spend at least 2-3 hours out side of class studying for every hour you are in class. Also it is a great possibility that you have 3, 4 and even 5 papers do all on the same day. Professors don't check to see if you have anything going on in other classes, all that matters is their own.

These are the 3 major differences, there are some smaller ones like bad food but they won't have a huge impact on your college life in the way that freedom, responsibility and course load do.
