Does the full moon have an effect on pets? Theories abound. The extra light by night would certainly contribute to more hunting on the behalf on certain animals, such as cats. Birds migrate mainly during the late day hours and night hours. They seem to set their eyes on the setting sun, or possibly the moon, as their navigation guide.
Sure, wolves howl at night. But are they actually baying at the moon? Or are they calling for friendship?
My own animals don't seem to act any crazier at the full moon than any other time. They always seem crazy to me. If I feed my horses a bit late, and the full moon is up, they'll charge me. But they do that any time I am late. The dogs aren't chasing their tails more at the full moon. The cats aren't pouncing on dust balls at the full moon. And I don't think I've seen them capture any more prey than usual, even at the full moon.
I watch the dogs and cats sleeping, keep an eye on the horses, watching for unusual behavior. I have yet to see anything really "Weird" at the full moon.
No, from the evidence I have, there is no proof that the full moon affects pets at all. If this were a court trial, there would be no indictment. Case dismissed.
