Sports stars get paid more than they deserve. They're entertainers that are playing, coaching, or managing a sport for the supposed love of it. The most recent contract that was denied that made me really think about this was Joe Torre's offer from the Yankees. He was offered a $5 million contract year contract plus bonuses for reaching the playoffs but he denied it. The reason he denied it was, according to him, that when a team offers a contract that is over 30% lower than it was previous year and only a one year contract that they don't really want him. If he really loved the job he wouldn't care how much he was paid or how long he was there for he would take it, especially seeing as $5 million is more than almost all of us will ever make in a life time. Another insane example is the Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback Jamarcus Russel. He was holding out for a big contract even though he is an unproven star. He didn't even sign with the team until the season already started and now he's just there warming the bench even though he is most likely one of the top 3 highest paid people on his team. But unfortunately we are at the point in this country where greedy Sports Stars are in the lime light, and the general population and media encourage them to go for the bigger contract even if it means compromising morals. Nothing will change with this unfortunately and it's just another one of those ludicrous things we have to deal with in life.
