OK let's just take a second to understand what MC stands for, it's short for Microphone Controller, someone who controls a Mic. not to say anyone can control it because you have to have a certain skill when using the device. Anyone can babble on about a subject or themselves hell we witness it every friday, at a bar having beers and talking to friends, i have trouble when people say they are an MC and then i hear there lyrical talent and wonder why they call themselves that. what they are doing is down playing a contemporary form of poetry because in a sense that is what rap is a modern day form of poetry. Do you think Shakespeare would have been considered an MC in his era if hip hop was around then? there is more to putting words together and making every last word in a sentence rhyme, the meat of the matter is what is squeezed into these rhyming words, yes the lyrical content. i have grown fond of a few MC's like Kool G Rap, Nas, Jay z, and some new talent like the dirty district J dilla, Guilty Simpson, and Phat Kat, can't forget lil' Wayne he is maturing into something worth speaking about. These are MC's who bring meaning to this topic because they have what drives an aspiring MC to the fore front of the art form, there is no blueprint, except what is layed down on wax so to speak, MC's evolve by listening to each other trying to make better lyrical content, hence MC battles where some rappers became famous like Eminem. An MC is someone who can express what they feel or speak about the environment around them, the struggle of life or the extravagance that life can bring, a modern day story teller, or political activist in search of a better way. This is what an MC is.
