The key word in this debate is "illegal". While I care deeply for people no matter their origins, and I sympathize with the plight of many, it still comes down to the matter of legalities and the depth of our country's "pocket".
In this day and age when our adult children are wondering if they are going to be able to rely on Social Security and other tax supported benefits after contributing their hard earned dollars into them each time they receive a paycheck, it seems ludicrous to hand those benefits to people who are in our country illegally, and who therefore pay nothing to help keep them solvent. An analogous example would be a householder who's financial situation is rather tenuous, and then a neighbor moves into his home uninvited. This neighbor expects to be housed, fed, clothed, and educated at the householder's expense, without making monetary contributions.
It's our way to be charitable, but sometimes charity does need to begin at home. What's to become of our householder if his finances are stretched to the point he can't provide for himself, let alone someone else? And in that instance, what of the neighbor? The householder would be in need then, due, in part, to his encroaching neighbor, and while the householder might want to continue helping his fellow tenant, both would be lost. And so it is, our country needs to look after it's own first, instead of welcoming illegal imigrants to sup at our table.
If peoples' of other nations enter legally and become part of our society, abiding by our laws, they would be contributing to the benefits provided for our citizens. They then would be entitled to all our country has to offer.
