The Memorization Kingdom vs the Intellectual Playground
High school can be thought of as the land of memorization. You began high school as an immature young teenager. Your hormones are racing and your mind is far from academics. Most students just want to socialize and get involved in activities. But for the limited amount of time that students spend on school work, its all about memorization. You have a wide variety of classes ranging from global history to foreign language. Exams are based on memorizing facts and just reciting them back to the teacher. Even the essays are carbon copies of textbook. The teachers just want you to learn your facts. The adolescent brain needs to have a good grasp of these facts in order to prepare for college. High school also lets you test out a wide variety of subjects. If you have a flare for drama, you might want to join the drama club and audition for the school plays. This helps students to develop skills that are necessary for future careers.
On the other hand, college is an intellectual playground. It teaches students critical thinking skills. Most students have a solid academic framework which enables them to take their coursework to the next level. They are ready to analyze texts and interpret the results of scientific studies. This helps to prepare them for the real world of work and further their educational development. Some students will extend their education to beyond college. Graduate school and doctoral study fall under the category of intellectual discovery which involves original research. Anything is possible with a solid academic background
