There are many folks who believe in things that are not "Real", and that is their right.
But by definition, "Real" means "occurring or existing in actuality".
For something to be real, you must be able to show it to someone else, or in some way be able to study its affects on the world.
Some folks equate Angels to invisible forces, like gravity, radio waves, and magnetism, which we cannot see, but are there all around us. The difference is that the invisible forces act in accordance with natural laws that we can test and verify.
Angels may come and save you from harm, if you are a believer, but, Gravity will pull you to the ground no mater what your belief system. And while we can photograph and otherwise record the effects of gravity, Angels seem to be camera shy.
If angels could be summoned, or their effects studied, then they could be declared Real, but so far, no one can summon angels on cue, and there are many events where an angel could have saved the day, but didn't.
I have always found it amusing that someone who survives a catastrophe is interviewed by the news and says something like, "My guardian angel, (or god) was looking out for me." Does that mean that the hundreds of other people who died were wicked, or otherwise did not rate the intervention of a mythical being?
Even an attempt at a natural law that showed how angels pick who survives, and who dies, would help. But, when you look at the "Miraculous" survivors, some are religious, some are not, some pray, some do not, they seem to be random, which you would expect.
Is it harmful to believe in "UnReal" things? Only if you think that giving money to someone else, will help those unreal things. There are many scamsters out there who try and make money from Angel beliefs.
