A display card also known as video card or graphic card is an item of personal computer hardware which generates and outputs images to a display. It is mostly used for gaming purposes. It operates much like a sound card. A Display Card is the first item a gamer or a general computer user decides to upgrade when seeking for a better graphics performance in their system. There are number of display cards and one has to choose the right card to install in their computers.

There are three different types of display cards to choose from. They are the standard PCI slot, the AGP slot and the PCI Express slot. The PCI slot is the newest graphic display card which offers highest performance.

By following a few easy steps one can easily install a display card in the computer. The first step is to gather the necessary tools to install a display card.

A screw driver is used hold the side panels on the case and also to hold the expansion slot covers on the case. Disconnect the computer from the power and remove cables connecting the peripherals to the computer. Remove the side panel and locate the right expansion slot cover and remove them to install new display card.

Hold the display card over the appropriate slot on the motherboard to see which slot to be removed. Many cards require a single cover to be removed. Align the display card correctly to the slot you have chosen and gently press the card into its place. Be sure to secure it to the case and put the expansion covers in its place.

Now replace the side panels and reconnect the peripherals and power the computer. The last and final step is to install the drivers of the new display card. You have now installed a display card in your computer.
