Tips for socializing with people

The Irony of Confidence

I am beginning to notice a strange thing among people. People that seem to have a confident air in moment by moment life lose it when they are thrown in front of people. People that you look at and determine there is a great deal of self-security that is possessed, falter and stumble over their words, and become apprehensive before a crowd or when all eyes are on them. Their cool ways and attention demanding demeanor shrivels when they are the main focus of a crowd. Perhaps it is because, though they demand the personal attention of those that surround them, they are not near prepared enough to have acquired the full attention of a mass, and feel stupid when they have. Others sense it and begin to throw out their harsh opinions and the stumbling worsens and the audience's attention is lost, and a sort of mask has been ripped from that person. It's interesting, because it is the very opposite for those people who have little self-confidence. Those with very little confidence in themselves shy far away from the social demands of life, yet when they are tossed before a crowd; they quickly array themselves in false confidence to get themselves through what is suddenly required of them. They will despise every minute of it, but the only way they survive it, is through forcing themselves to appear confident, and in so doing, all eyes and ears are on them, in shock of what is taking place. They acquire the full attention of their peers while they are merely trying to survive and the confident lose all attention when it's everything they want.
