How job shadowing can help you choose your college major

Job Shadowing is by far the best way to realize what you want for your future.

As a child, you are full of questions and wonders. If you are lucky you have someone to answer the questions for you. If you are not then you must become resourceful and find out for yourself. When you are in college there is so much going on and these days there are many fields to choose from. Each field has many other minors. These days it is not as easy as it used to be. I firmly believe the best way to teach something is through the use of two techniques, the basics, and the hands on approach. You always need the basics for everything, but it is easier for most people to watch and learn. Then to do themselves until they get the result they want. It is through the second method where a student might truly decide whether this is the right occupation for them. After all it is the rest of their life and the one thing to remember is LOVE YOUR WORK or try to at least.

For example, I Have two brothers who are extremely bright. As part of their high school curriculum they were told to find someone to shadow. I worked for a Law school and they both wanted to be lawyers. I asked my professor if he thought it would be a good idea if they shadowed him on a day that he did not have court appearances. He agreed it was a great idea. He was just teaching that day and running the civil clinic. So the timing was perfect both boys arrived with me that day to work and immediately he whisked them away.

They were gone most of the day for classes and in and out buildings dealing with students. I am sure he made it as hectic as possible. As is turned out the eldest decided that day that he did not want to be a lawyer under any circumstances. While on the other hand the second brother made it his first and only goal. Which he achieved last year. I am sure that both brothers made their decision after the job shadowing program was over.
