How is college different from high school?

High school is to "Go Fish" as college is to "Bridge." College is incredibly more complicated, rewarding, interesting, expensive, fun, useful, and time consuming. In college you can't sit idle as you do playing "Go Fish". No pairs will drop into your hand automatically. Instead you must plan ahead, stay engaged, and try your best until you graduate.

College tests are harder than high school tests. It's as simple as that. I didn't study for any tests in high school, maybe you didn't either. But I tell you that won't fly in college, you will fail. On a similar note, college papers are infinitely more difficult than high school papers. Used to writing one draft at the last minute and still getting an A? So was I, sadly that strategy won't work any longer. Each paper assigned will require your careful thought and editing; no more cutting corners.

As for reading assignments high school is joke. However, you'll find that college classes may assign as many as 80 damn pages a day. That's a lot,- especially since you'll need to pay attention while you're reading it. (p.s. it won't be fluffy easy reading either. Wishing for Lord of the Flies? Get ready for Philosophy of Material Nature instead)

Ok, it's been established that college coursework outshines its lesser high school brother in the difficulty category. But before rustling up a chocolate feast to ease your new worry, rejoice! I can attest to the fact that college work is very rewarding. There is a point it. Absent are the busywork worksheets I knew in high school; gone are the mandatory assemblies and lunchtimes; compulsory standardized tests are not to be found. So yes, there is more work in college, but you won't mind it as much. Balance course work with social activities and you'll mind it even less.

Discussing those O' so rumored college social activities is not a strong point of mine. However, I do know that socializing in college is different than the same in high school. I hesitate to say that it is better, but that's only because I don't want to put down high school friendships. I can at least say that you'll meet many new people, more than you ever have before. And especially if you're attending a small school then many of your new friends will share your interests. Philosophical and political discussions will be more commonplace; and everyone will seem more friend than they did back in high school.

In a way college and high school are the same: both are schools, both have work, and both allow for socializing. But saying that would be like comparing a Twinky to a wedding cake. I guess they're both baked goods, but one is obviously superior.
