I can't honestly say why I liked White women specifically, but it had little to do with the reasoning listed in the other articles. For certain I have no fear of being with a strong, confident woman. And I haven't found White girls to be any more submissive than girls of any other race. For me, it was simply a matter of who I grew up around. My parents noticed my preferences long before I did. My mom once said the only thing that would have surprised her was if I brought home a Black girl.

My father was in the Army when I was born. We traveled extensively all the years of my childhood. Once in a while we spent time on a mixed community but most of the time we were in predominantly White towns and schools.I can tell you it was certainly risky to try to date outside of my race in most of these places in the 60's and early 70's. But the options I had were few. Often the only females of color in the entire school were my own sisters! Fortunately, my world changed by the time I hit puberty.

We arrived in Germany during the summer of 1974. Compared to the rednecks of Oklahoma where I had just left, the people of Europe were remarkably open minded. The Germans in the local community were especially friendly. I learned over time that the unit that swept through there towards the end of WWII were mostly Black GIs. They must have made quite an impression then because the Germans treated me and all the other Blacks on our little base very well.

So I guess the only reason I dated White women during my formative years was that's what was there. Most of the girls in our school were white; the German girls, ditto. Since then my tastes haven't changed much, just expanded to include Asian and Latinas. Would I ever date a Black woman? I won't have a chance to find out now because I am married and likely to remain so for the rest of my life. I can tell you that I do find Beyonce, Vivica Fox and several other prominent sisters not only attractive but rank among the most beautiful in the world. Perhaps if I had seen them years ago, things might have turned out differently. Ultimately, race doesn't matter to me - I've been happy with my choices.
