Have you been to a University that is so big that you seem to get lost in the midst of all of the people and buildings? Do you find the school work so overwhelming that you are left confused? Do you feel broke after paying for your classes or the cost of a university class prevents you from attending? Continuing your education in a comunity college would help you reap the benefits of a University without feeling lost or confused or even broke.
After talking with several students who attend a community college in Dallas, the biggest reason why they decided to attend a community college versus a university was plain and simple, it cost less money. Other reasons include the work load is not as heavy, the student-teacher relationship is easier to develop, as well as most community colleges are closer to their home than any university.
There are many students who come right out of high school and do not know what kind of degree they want to go for. By attending a community college the former high school student can pay a lower cost to take several core classes that will be good for any degree as well as transfer to any university until they know for sure what degree to go for. Some community colleges, however, depending on the state you live in, require testing if the scores from the high school transcript is not high enough. In some cases that person will have to take a developmental course until he/she is ready for college level classes. That can be beneficial to those that stand a larger chance to fail their first university course in English or Math.
The full-time worker is another type of person to think about. Attending a community college after years of being out of school will help them get their feet wet. They can get used to the surroundings of a college without feeling overwhelmed by the size of the campus and the amount of people. There are night time classes offered in most cases, so that the full-time workers can continue to work as well as attend a class or two. The working student can also decide to take online courses. They are becoming more popular for the working community due to their convenience.
Community colleges also offer continuing education courses of various sorts. One is for adults from the ages of 65 and up that enjoy interacting with other people their age, learning, and improving their skills. Community colleges offer second chances to those that dropped out of high school and want to get their GED. They also offer Englsih classes for those that cannot speak English and want to better themselves in the working field.
Continuing your education through a community college is very beneficial to many people. Community colleges have so much to offer potential students that sometimes a University cannot. Learning what the community college has to offer would only encourage people to continue their education.
