I definitely think that today's youth are lacking compassion. I'm 24 years old and have three children and today's "younger crowd" are more disrespectful than my own. I see a lot of gang violence where I reside at now, and I just think that it's all pointless and stupid. My generation has no respect! They don't respect each other as a people, and they don't respect themselves. The way I was raised, I've come to feel like an outcast in my own generation because I respect my elders, greet people in the proper manner (using Mr. or Mrs.)and tend to stray as far away from any drama as possible. I look at the news and all I see is senseless killings. I believe that as time goes on society is just going to get more violent. Today's youth are lacking the teachings that were before us. They're missing out on family values because they're not being taught or because they're too hard-headed to listen. My generation frightens me. I don't even like to think about what the future hold for my children.

These days (especially where I'm at) it's cool to carry a gun, be in a gang and go do something unnecessary like shoot someone. Elementary and middle school kids are being recruited for this type of lifestyle. Nothing positive comes out of senseless, random acts of violence like these. Today's youth need a reality check. They need to see that when they act this way they are not contributing to bring up society, but they are keeping it down. They need to realize that the children of today needs a positive world to live in and that their mind is more powerful than any gun.
