Should the United States boycott the 2008 Olympics . "No"! What happened many years ago when we boycotted the Olympics ? Absolutely nothing ! The athletes trained so hard for their chance to be ambassadors for their country , and Ronald Reagan boycotts the Olympics because Russia invaded Afghanistan . Did it do any good to boycott then , If it did I never heard anything form it . I could see the disappointment in the Olympians eyes , knowing they would not get a chance to compete . For some of the athletes , it would be their last time to compete .
If we boycott this time , we might as well boycott them all in the future . I say give the athletes their chance to change China's perception of us . That we can compete through adversity and show the world that we the United States do not condone China's perception on human rights . We can also show China that at least every four years we can compete as a peaceful Nation and not one of ridicule and hypocrisy . I can not say this enough , boycotts do no good , they are probably hoping we do not show any way . Why give them pleasure and satisfaction .
We will end up only hurting ourselves by this action , let the Government pat them selves on the back for once again keeping our athletes at home . The Government would much rather have them in Iraq anyway . It disgust me , the ideas our Government come up with sometimes , do they actually think a boycott will change anything . If any one dose , it will not stop with a simple boycott .
The world will deal with China , the cycle of life will have its affect on China's human rights issues , for now let us look for different avenues , to help the people of China find solitude in a place gone mad . These magnificent people and their heritage have survived the dominant culture of their society for a long time , our boycott will only add insult to injury for their people .
