Stress issues linked to Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs)

This has the potential to become a very real health issue
As more and more people suffer the long term negative effects of video game playing.
Video games are often used as a stressor to measure cardiovascular activity and to predict future hypertension in individuals.

Add music and sounds to the mix and and there is a definite increase in hostility,
tension and anxiety. The sedentary lifestyle also takes its toll and often leads to obesity and high blood pressure. There is a tremendous ammount of pressure to win

in these games. The player is connected to many others who expect a high level of performance.

Many play for hour after hour without moving even to eat . I have seen people play all night and then get so tense and angry at losing that they threw their wireless controller and broke it to pieces. It becomes a way of life inhabited by its own society to the elimination of all outside influences. In moderation it is harmless,
but many become addicted and actually suffer psychological changes.

Saliva samples taken in a test group ,showed an increase in the stress hormone
cortisol after playing video games with audio input. MMOGs require an intensity of
attention and effort that must be maintained over hours of play. It's like being on the front lines in battle all the time. It is a very stressful pastime.
