vegetables have matured, been picked, and stored.
During this assignment, the student should act like a scientist by documenting everything from how the ground looked from the start, what he/she did to prepare it for the vegetables, the type of watering system they came up with, the names of the vegetables planted, sizes the vegetables were from plantings, and how many veggies each plant produced including the condition of the veggies.
Set Up a Freshwater Fish Tank: This assignment requires purchasing materials. Therefore, a budget may be in order. The student must learn about different kinds of tropical fish, their habits, and what kinds of fish are able to peaceably coexist. The number of fish the student selects should be determined by the size of the fishtank that will be used, and by the size of the fish chosen for the tank. Setting up the fishtank must be the student's job. However, as this assignment calls for the use of both water and electricity, the fishtank cleaning filter, and any other electrically operated devices purchased for the tank, should NOT be plugged in without adult supervision; and should be unplugged whenever the tank is being cleaned.
Children can learn a great a deal about tropical fish from this assignment. They can also learn about animal care and feeding as it will be their job to tend to the fish on a daily basis. Because this project can continue for weeks to months to years, depending on the lifespan of the fish, students should make notes regarding the fishes' sizes and colors upon tank setup compared to the same characteristics a month or two down the line. An actual time period should be determined at the start of the activity. Students should include the fishes' interactions with one another, and how often they had to clean the fishtank in their notes. A report should be written to finalize the assignment. Keep an eye out for small fry (baby fish) if you choose this project.
Although some of these homework activities require a small monetary investment, each activity engages both physical and mental skills, and most of the activities teach children skills they can have all their lives.
