If pie making is selected, the crust must be homemade which means sifting and measuring will still be necessary. If it's possible to choose a pie filling that can be prepared in its entirety at home, for instances apple, cherry, or pineapple, do so. If the filling must be store bought try to find one that has the minimal amount of prepackaged ingredients so the rest can be added at home.

Whether choosing to make cake, pie, or both, no electric mixers are allowed. Aside from hand beating the cake, most of the work involved for this activity, up to and including placing pans of cakes or pies in the oven, involves mental skills. The majority of the physical portions of the activity come in to play during cleanup which should take place as soon as deserts are placed in the oven. Counters must be wiped clean. Floor must be swept if necessary due to flour or other ingredient spillage. All dishes and utensils must be washed.

Train Your Dog: Walking back and forth, around a yard, teaching a dog to heel, and to stay even though you've left his/her side, requires a lot of work. It also requires a lot of patience and creativity on the trainer's part. If your dog is feisty or overactive, training him/her might take two or three more times the energy, patience, and creativity.

Dance While Learning Words to a Song for a Talent Show: This is a fun assignment. If possible, choose a compact disc the child likes that's been recently released. Be prepared to play the disc over and over again in order to learn and memorize the words in tune.

Redecorate a Room: This assignment requires purchasing materials. Therefore, a budget may be in order. Because it also involves a residence, it may be more suitable for homeschooled students. However, it will require the student to learn realistic home improvement techniques and how to spend household money exercising sensibility.

Plant and Maintain a Vegetable Garden: The garden should consist of at least three different kinds of vegetables - four of each type. The ground must be prepared by weeding, if necessary, tilling, and mulching the soil. Determine an efficient way of watering the plants using the least amount of water possible. Garden maintenance must be performed at least once a week, pulling weeds, straightening bent over plants, etcetera, for at least three months or until
