Choosing the correct role-playing game for your group can be quite a challange. Depending on size, frequence of play, and the individuals involved you may have a problematic time. From personal experience, no two role-playing games are alike wether it be genre or a completely different engine. My group started small, grew, then diminished depending on lifestyles, DM/GM's, and what type of game we may be involved in.
Things to consider are the interests of your group and the time alloted for playing. If it's only a once a week ordeal then you may want to have as much indepth content as possible. If your group grows bored then you may have a few disband or wait until a better scenario rolls around. You will always have your diehard players and your once-in-a-while players. Don't worry so much for your diehards because their in it for the game and social interaction.
Your other concern would be is the rpg table top or computer based? Or is it a LARP (Live Action Role-playing)? Table top is harder to maintain depending on attendance and content. Computer based is much easier and user friendly, each player may go at their own pace allowing them to be involved as much as they want without an obligation. A LARP is the hardest to recommend but quite rewarding if you have enough imagination or props.
In any case, role-playing games are usually more rewarding the greater emphasis and time you, and your group, put into them.
