Money junkies are motivated by materialism. The latest gadgets, the latest fashions, the must have item of the moment. There is far more to life than things.
No matter how much people have they will always want more. No matter how nice the item, they want something better. The expression "the grass is always greener on the other side of the street" certainly applies here.
Money should be a means of getting from one place to another. For the junkie it is the money itself that is the destination.
When money becomes so important that people will do anything to get it, then the money becomes an obsession. Missing out on important family events, working 24/7, associating only with people who can benefit them, is not living. It is missing out on so many wonderful things that happen in a person's life.
Along with the money is the sense of self importance. By making lots of money it makes me a superior person. Politicians want me around. People look up to me. I am better than everyone else.
With money comes power to influence politics and society. How many people are on TV simply because they make the big bucks. Celebrities are assumed to be knowledgeable on subjects because they starred in a film and made a lot of money. Other people on the film with lower paychecks do not get the same respect and attention.
As a whole it sometimes seems as if our society is far to enraptured with money. It is definitely not true the more money the better a person is. In my opinion we need to back away from the worship of money and the materialism that goes with it.
