New approaches to menopause help women and reduce US cancer rates

My Natural Approach to Menopause in 1995-1996

Seventeen years after I went through menopause, I found I had no symptoms while eating a diet high in vegetables, fruit, soy, fish, Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil capsules), flax meal (ground fresh flax seeds or flax seeds put in blender in smoothies) and a few vitamin and mineral supplements. By adding a very slight amount of vitamin K (from green leafy vegetables such as kale) or from the amount contained in calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D supplements that added that tiny amount of vitamin K, the minerals could be better absorbed.

Calcium can't be absorbed correctly without the vitamin D. And magnesium is needed. Calcium citrate is best. And in Japan, studies reveal that without a tiny bit of vitamin K, the calcium won't be absorbed where they belong, in the bones, not inside the arteries forming calcium-type plaque that causes hardening of the arteries. Calcium-channel blockers are sometimes given to remove calcium from inside the arteries. Calcium belongs in your bones, not in calcium deposits between your shoulder blades causing bursitis. So be sure to find out whether your calcium-magnesium supplements are being absorbed by your bones, the correct place for minerals.

Also you need to balance your zinc to copper ratio. Here's my point of view on what helped me during menopause. It's now 17 years later, and my vegetarian, fruit, nuts, and fish diet helped. Oils eaten were extra virgin olive oil, grape seed oil, and tree nuts-walnuts and almonds. I drank some soy milk, but not so much as to ruin my pancreas because soy affects the pancreas. Do your research and eat in moderation of any new diets. Beware of fad diets and diet fads. Here's what I wrote about in 1996 and what others wrote reviewing my article on menopause in Internet World magazine from my 1995-1996 experience with menopause and beyond.

Anne Hart, a medical journalist, was unhappy with her doctor's response to her questions regarding different treatment methods for the symptoms of menopause. She decided to do her own research to find answers to her questions. She was interested in finding information about natural yam-derived progesterone as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Hart believed the estrogen in HRT was the cause of her dangerously high blood pressure.

Using the Internet to access newsgroups and WWW sites, she not only found information on
