Since my parents purchased their home in 1978, their property and school taxes have more than doubled. Taxes on items such as gasoline and tobacco have gone through the roof. At what point will the government stop placing the onus of its debt on the consumers?
Perhaps monies allocated to government programs could be reevaluated. There are ways to cut costs in our country without levying yet another tax on the citizens. For example, departments requiring machinery could, perhaps, tell the manufacturers who charge them hundreds of dollars for one bolt, that they will no longer pay those prices. Refusing to pay exorbitant, usurious fees will send the message that money is needed for various other things.
This is, of course, only one example, but the point is simple: stop wasting our money and you'll stop needing to hit us with new taxes.
The Internet is a service for which we already pay. I pay over $20 a month to access the Internet. I pay for the electricity used to power my system. I pay for the cable through which my DSL runs. All of those services already have federal, state, and/or local taxes attached. Isn't that enough? I think it's time the government stop spending money on programs which have obviously failed or serve no purpose and start redistributing the money they automatically take out of my paycheck on a weekly basis-before I even see it, Uncle Sam gets his cut while I'm not sure exactly what he's done to earn the right to get that money before I do-isn't that enough?
The American people cannot handle many more taxes. We demanded independence from England because they were taxing us too heavily, taking too much of our money without leaving us enough to live on. I lose over $600 of MY money every pay period...why should I know pay taxes on of the few "free" services left? Enough is enough...Perhaps, if everyone paid an equal share of the taxes instead of offering tax breaks to anyone and everyone except the middle class, the government could cover its costs.
