There is no safe place on the net. My space is no exception. It was just recently My space started to kick off registered SEX OFFENDERS. That's right go to MY SPACE and ask they sent a big mass email to members informing them of this after a teen was lured by a sex offender she met on My space.
Unfortunately people can make up any name or email or even a profile they want. Case in hand even perverted justice which I might add I would love to be a part of, they make up fake profiles to try to catch the perverts out there. Nevertheless the perverts and bad people in general have the same privilege.
You can stand over your kids shoulder monitor where they go on the net but the bad guys can still go anywhere they want and if they are looking for kids or teen they will find them. Kids and teens go to places on the net to meet other teens in neighboring towns as well as their own.
They look for new clothes and in general are social people at that age who love to meet and talk to new people. Most of us were that way we loved having as many friends as we could get. We kept the phone busy so much that eventually our parents may have gotten us our own line. It is different now days.
Instead of the phone in the living room, it is the cell phone with texting and picture taking abilities and Internet access as well as the home computers where many kids now have a computer in their room as common as a television set.
The problem is so do the bad guys we want to keep our kids away from. They sit in their own house in the dark posing as a kid or a teen. They can again make any profile they want, so even if your teen thinks they are smart and want to check out the profile before talking to someone it could be a false profile a sack of lies that can put your teen in danger.
The bad guys can upload a picture of any kid they want for their profile and say what ever they want. Your kid would never know the difference. Heck for that matter think about this. Your teen thinks from the picture on the profile they are speaking to a 16 year old girl and now they want to meet at the mall down the road. Once your teen gets there they are pulled into a car and taken to who knows where. It has happened.
It is not just My space but any gathering place or chat room. Keep in mind a Sex Offender or Murderer does not want to be known as what he or she is. The entire purpose is to attract attention so they can get what they want. So they will not be quick to say, who they really
