Taxing would be unconstitutional if we have a right to freedom of speech. How could you tax ideas and the right to information. Wouldn't that move us into an "only the rich need apply" mode? Or, those who pay the most taxes have the most information? Then where would we be? We'd be knocking out information to those who need it most.
I don't believe taxing a person to use the Internet would help our future children. It would certainly become a great way to keep the children off the Internet. I mean, you can't pay taxes until your old enough to work, right? So all of the schools with computers would be paying for the privilege of gaining knowledge. Sad commentary.
Why tax knowledge? I've always been proud that our country allows freedom of speech. Wouldn't taxing it take away our means of instant information? That's the whole reason the Internet was founded. We should be very careful and analyze this much more closely if we intended to keep our freedoms. I for one don't want to loose this source of information that is so readily available today.
Last, but not least, as writers we need this flow of information. I for one would not like to pay taxes every time I decided to go to the Internet for my research. How about you?
