While Copper Mountain is one of Summit County's most popular ski resorts, some of the best activities and deals are not widely publicized. That's what makes them special. However, if you're looking for an insider's perspective on Copper Mountain secrets, read on.
Your day at Copper Mountain might begin with a tour of the mountain that is conducted by the wonderful mountain ambassadors. There are tours given for every skill level. Even if you don't want to take a tour, you can get free chocolate chip cookies at the ambassador's station, which is located at the top of the Eagle Lift in Center Village. If you don't want cookies, but would love some free cocoa, here's an idea. At each of the base areas, you might see employees holding palm pilots and conducting surveys. Answering these 5-minute surveys gets you a free cup of cocoa.
When you're ready to explore the slopes, you have a few options. Novices should head over to Union Creek, which is a complete beginner's area. Advanced beginners and intermediates will enjoy the long runs off the American Flyer lift. If it's a crowded day, get off at the top of the flyer, and turn right. You will be in the Timberline area, where the snow is softer and the lift lines are shorter. For advanced intermediate skiing, try the runs off the Eagle Lift. Once you get comfortable, avoid the crowds by taking the Excelerator Lift, which is located at the top of the Eagle, a little bit downhill and off to the right. If you want to test your speed, try the Nastar course off Copperopolis.
Not fast enough? Consider taking a class at Copper's ski school, which is one of the best in Summit County. If you are over 45, consider joining the Over the Hill Gang. This is less like a class and more like a guided experience. The OHG guides are all locals, who know all of the mountain's secret nooks and crannies. OHG members get lift line privileges. They are also allowed to eat lunch at The Edge, which is the employee cafeteria. The Edge offers a substantial lunch discount.
If you are not in the Over the Hill Gang, you will have some to decisions to make at lunch time. Ninety percent of the folks on the mountain will crowd into Jack's, which is located in Center Village. This is usually a bad idea. It's overcrowded and overpriced. However, they recently added a gourmet deli which is spectacular. You get to choose two or three healthy, delicious entrees.
If you can't get into Jack's, Endo's Restaurant, which is also in Center Village, is actually a
