Belief in the life after death will not make us in the losing end. Other than looking from the religious perspective the following are the benefits that one may receive in believing life after death :

Individual
i) The Absolute Justice

Living in this world is difficult to get full justice. Sometimes we didn't really get what we wanted even if we have tried it for the best. Sometimes other people who take advantageous of other people, back stabbing were those who received the most respects and the genuine people who follows rules are marginalized. So where can we get justice ? The answer is during the life after death. Having this state of believe in someone will release his/her emotion

ii) The Sense of Purpose

If we wake up in the morning without any concrete plan for that day it is really difficult and feels so lazy. But if we have a plan on that particular day we will feel energetic and so motivate to wake up. The same apply in our life. If we don't really know why we ever exist in this world so we just 'drive' our life with emptiness. But if we believe that our goal is there/ the life after death..(i.e to enter the heaven which we can stay forever without any single day of wariness ) then our daily life will feel 'full'. Our approach towards life, problems, wealth, people and everything on this world will be different.

Community

i) Inner Control

Having the community that believes with the life after death will be an advantage because it is easy to control them. The rules and regulation doesn't require so much of enforcement because everybody have their inner enforcer to keep them observing the rules.
