Control really is the name of the game when it comes to taking children on trips. Parents MUST control their children to prevent disruption to the normal airline activities. Simply moving the children to another part of the plane simply because the movie is violent, will only cause the children to either act out, or cause disruption in already otherwise stable environments. The second aspect of this is safety. While the plane may only have two exits, both of which watched by flight attendants, the ability to 'loose' a child increases significantly when the children are separated. This simply is not a good idea.
The airlines need to take this into account. Because they can not PHYSICALLY separate children from the parents (control and safety concerns here), they must learn to CENSOR the movies which are shown.
I remember the last time I took my 5 year old and 1 year old on a plane trip. We watched cartoons instead of the played movie. Reason? I didn't want my children exposed to that type of violence. Resolution? The Airline discontinued the movie and played a cartoon instead. Airlines are usually pretty good at this type of things. Most planes do not even have the single screen for viewing anymore as it is. Most airlines allow you to watch, on your own personal screen the movie instead. This way, if you do not wish to watch, or the program is offensive to children, is simply isn't seen.
