Charging people for the use of Internet would basically ruin what the internet is all about. The free flowing information and communication would be decreased. So much of what we all do on line would be slowed down to a halt. This would not only cut down on communication between friends and family but it would also cut down on e-commerce..

People may seriously cut down on shopping over the Internet as well which could cause a lot of lost revenue and eventual closing of on-line businesses which a lot of small business people depend on. This would eventually have an impact on the economy as a whole, as several small and even some large business that depend on Internet sales would eventually close down, creating a loss of income and jobs.

The state of this economy is such that it needs e-commerce to survive, and not only survive but thrive. If the Internet usage were to be taxed people would begin to use it only for necessary usage. People would not shop on line because it would cost them to do so. They would no longer comparison shop or do things such as look up recipes allowing web sites to gain advertising revenue from other web sites and companies. The free flowing potential for Internet earnings on all levels would dwindle simply because people would not want to pay the taxes to use these services. The Internet and all of its web sites and businesses would suffer from this tremendously.

The way the Internet currently works allows anyone with any type of idea to open a web site that anyone on the internet is free to look at. Possibly that person earns money from selling something on his or her web site, or they earn money by providing a service, or through advertising for other companies. But if you begin to tax the people for their internet usage that person's web site's page views may dwindle significantly and that person no longer has revenue. Now think of hundreds or even thousands of web sites like this that reside on the internet. That is hundreds or thousands more peope out trying to look for jobs which are already difficult to find especially in this economy.

Each business on the Internet already pays taxes on their use for all of their sales and revenues. Taxes are already being paid our for Internet uses. I own a small on line business and I pay taxes on my earnings so the government is already getting money for e-commerce. When I pay my Internet provider they will inevitably have to pay taxes for that money that is paid to them. There is simply no reason to tax us for Internet use, it is not like the government is not getting a piece of it anyways.

We already pay taxes on way to many things, and we are continually forced to pay more and more. Can't we just have this one thing. The answer to the question here is very simple, charge taxes on using the internet, and maybe the government will have a little extra money for a short amount of time, but the economy as a whole will suffer.
