Comic books, just like everything else in entertainment today, are no longer original or unique. Comic books have become too political. They are too involved into pop culture and current events. Classic comic titles like Spiderman are too trendy and trying to include references to music and current fashion. Also, comic books are starting to lack super heroes. The comics inspired by the war in Iraq and 9/11 include everyday heroes, men without powers. They are true heroes at heart, but they do not change the way things are as heroes such as Superman do. Even popular heroes travel to the war zones in Iraq. Comic books used to be original. They used to include real super heroes. The characters from the golden age and the silver age are true to the super hero genre. Heroes like Hal Jordan and Bruce Wayne are fearless, brave, and carry out rules and standards to live by. Today's heroes are not as honorable as our silver age champions. Hal Jordan lived his life by the Green Lantern oath, and Bruce Wayne honored his rule of being a hero and not a killer. Even though, these great heroes are present in the modern age editions, they are not as memorable as their silver age counterparts. Hal Jordan is dark and gloomy ever since he came back from the dead. And Batman is not the detective he used to be. This let's us ask ourselves the question: Where have all the heroes gone? Yes, the Green Lantern and Batman are still there, but they are not the real heroes they were when comic books stood for something. They stood for peace. They stood for justice. They stood for things much more important than they had too. It's not hard to have fighting and explosions, but to place a message in there is an amazing thing. Today, comic books lack the true heroes, and they lack the morals that were the reason they were created in the first place.
